Are The Bruins a Sinking Ship?

January 19th, 2010 | by bowlerguy92 |

The Bruins Marc Savard

Ah my first article, it’s like crawling out of the womb for the very first time.  The gross unsanitary keyboard beneath my fingers, the stale air in my bedroom, and a few dirty cereal bowls on the table next to me, if this is what sports writing is like then sign me up for more!

I’m not going to use this website to tell you all about what Lucic’s points per game average is or Bitz’s numbers, or what Rask’s girlfriend is doing after the game (probably everyone has an idea…), I’m going to use it as a fan forum and I’m going to speak like a fan, because that’s what I am….got it? Good, lets begin!

Are the Bruins a sinking ship?

With the losses and returns (or not) of, Savard, Lucic, Bergeron, and countless others, I fear the Bruins chance of making the playoffs. It wasn’t until the recent emergency callup of 24 year old Drew Larmen that I realized what kind of shape the Bruins are in.

I don’t know if the Bruins just got a hot new trainer and everyone wants to be back there getting their groin rubbed down or if we simply have just forgotten how to take a hit, but the revolving door needs to stay closed for a while. It seems every game someone gets checked and goes down, or takes a shot in the leg and goes down, or had bad nachos the night before and goes down. I almost can’t watch games anymore in fear of what I’m going to see next. That’s issue number one as far as I’m concerned.

Issue number two: Scoring goals! Something every NHL team enjoys and needs to do but the Bruins frequently can’t and if we do Timmy is more than happy to let the other team play catch up. If we play a good game we don’t seem to be able to hold it and end up either digging it late, or losing in overtime or a shootout *cough* Anaheim I’m looking at you……The Bruins need to start producing, and fast if we want to hold down a spot in the already tight Northeast division.

Issue number 3: Goaltending! Granted, half of goaltending involves Chara and whoever his other half happens to be that night stopping the puck from making it to the goalie, but regardless, Timmy needs to loosen up the hinges. When he’s good he’s good but this season I’m unfortunately inclined to say that he has been…..up and down.  The stats for him are fairly decent, I believe under 2.00 goals per game average but when he blows it he blows it. Rask has been fairly solid I have found, I feel quite confident typically when he is in the goal. Thomas was even pulled from last night’s slaughter, the second time he’s been pulled in 2 weeks.

That’s about it for me I guess, I’m pulling hard for the Bruins but for them to succeed we need players on the bench and not up in the luxury box drinking beer. Anyone remember the Titanic? Ya, it’s kinda like that.
